It is a very eagerly awaited update from Microsoft that brings about a whole host of new features and bug fixes but most importantly it is the minimum version of Exchange 2013 required for on-premises coexistence with supported legacy Exchange Server versions so unless you are installing a new Exchange organisation (which most people will not be) then this is the version you will need.
